Kheema Recipe

Kheema is a flavorful Indian dish made from minced meat, typically mutton or beef. It’s often cooked with onions, tomatoes, spices, and herbs. Kheema can be enjoyed on its own, or served with naan, roti, or rice.

Here’s a basic kheema recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 500g minced mutton or beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil: Heat the oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat.
  2. Sauté spices: Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds. Then, add coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala. Sauté for another 30 seconds.
  3. Add onions and garlic: Add the chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté until the onions become soft and translucent.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste: Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute.
  5. Add minced meat: Add the minced meat to the pan and break it up with a spoon. Cook until the meat is browned and cooked through.
  6. Add water and simmer: Add the water and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the liquid has evaporated.
  7. Add cilantro and serve: Stir in the chopped cilantro and adjust the salt to taste. Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice.

Tips:

  • For a spicier kheema, add more red chili powder or some chopped green chilies.
  • You can add other vegetables like potatoes or peas to the kheema for a more filling meal.
  • Kheema can also be made with chicken or paneer.
  • Serve kheema with a side of raita or mint chutney.
