Mutton Curry: A Hearty Indian Dish

Mutton curry is a flavorful and hearty Indian dish made with mutton (lamb) and a rich, aromatic curry sauce. It’s often served with rice, naan, or roti.

Ingredients:

  • 500g mutton, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk or cream
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions:

  1. Sauté spices: Heat the oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds. Then, add coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala. Sauté for another 30 seconds.
  2. Add onions and garlic: Add the chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté until the onions become soft and translucent.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste: Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute.
  4. Add mutton: Add the mutton pieces to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.
  5. Add coconut milk or cream: Pour the coconut milk or cream into the pan and stir to combine.
  6. Simmer: Add the water and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the mutton is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  7. Add cilantro and serve: Stir in the chopped cilantro and adjust the salt to taste. Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice.

Tips:

  • For a spicier mutton curry, add more red chili powder or some chopped green chilies.
  • You can add other vegetables like potatoes or peas to the mutton curry for a more filling meal.
  • Serve mutton curry with a side of raita or mint chutney.
