Vada Pav is a popular street food in India, especially in Maharashtra. It consists of a deep-fried potato patty (vada) sandwiched between two buns (pav). The vada is typically made from a mixture of mashed potatoes, spices, and breadcrumbs.
Here’s a basic recipe for Vada Pav:
Ingredients:
For the vada:
- 2 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1/4 cup gram flour
- 1/4 cup rice flour
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
For the pav:
- 4 pav buns
- Butter or margarine
Instructions:
- Make the vada: Combine the mashed potatoes, gram flour, rice flour, red chili powder, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt in a bowl. Mix well until a dough forms.
- Shape the vada: Divide the dough into small balls and flatten them slightly.
- Fry the vada: Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the vada until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
- Prepare the pav: Cut the pav buns in half and butter or margarine the inside.
- Assemble the vada pav: Place a fried vada between the two halves of the pav bun.
Vada Pav is best enjoyed hot and fresh. It is often served with a chutney or a spicy sauce.
